You may have noticed that Microsoft are looking for you to ditch your old version of Windows and get on board with Windows 10! If you have seen the below message then your already feeling the pain!
Although i am 100% on board with the transition to Windows 10 for a number of reasons (Security / Stability / Running Speed / Functionality) the above message being displayed each time you log into your device can be extremely frustrating.
Symptoms:
The below message is displayed when a device runs a windows update check, whether that be automatically in the background or if a manual update check is run:
Unsupported hardware Your PC uses a processor that is designed for the latest version of Windows. Because the processor is not supported together with the Windows version that you are currently using, your system will miss important security updates.
Why oh why are we seeing this?:
Are you running a device purchased within the last year? Then there is a high chance it has one of the following processors inside:
Intel (7th) Gen
AMD (BR) Bristol Ridge
If you answered yes to the above Microsoft are implementing a policy to restrict access to downloading any future updates on your device if you are running:
Windows Server 2008 R2 / 2012 R2
Windows 7 & 8.1
Firstly Microsoft's Recommendation:
Get yourself updated to Server 2016 and Windows 10 asap! Not easily achievable instantly and can take some serious planning in a business environment.
Secondly POLA Technical Solutions Recommendation:
Workstations: Unless you experience compatibility issues with software running in Windows 10 or have a severe dislike for the operating system we would recommend performing an upgrade / backup and fresh install.
Servers: Again we also recommend planning a server upgrade to take place when feasibly possible to continue receiving access to the latest security updates.
Buuuuuuuut how do we just get rid of the message to regain our sanity???
Yes as always if there is a setting to show the message there will always be a setting to disable the message!
From experience we have found the below updates to be the culprits:
KB4012218 - W7 & 2008R2 - non security improvements & fixes
KB4012219 - 8.1 & 2012R2 - non security improvements & fixes
KB4015546 - W7 & 2008R2 - Security Update / Critical (only remove if the security update does not directly affect your device)

The above updates can be removed by following the below steps:

Select view installed updates (top left)
In the top right search for the above KB article reference that is associated with your Windows Version e.g for windows 7 type KB4015546
Right click the update listed on the left and select uninstall (if no update is shown on the left after searching this means the update is not installed)
