So you are casually browsing the internet, visiting the sites you regularly go to and suddenly you are presented with the above on screen.....
Do you:
A) Follow the on screen prompts as recommended B) Quickly call the number listed to get help with the issue C) Quickly restart in the hope that it will be gone when it turns back on
It was a trick question its none of the above
When presented with something you are not expecting to see, we recommend to follow the below steps:
1) Take a picture of the error as quickly as possible but do not click any of the buttons 2) Shut down your device and do not visit any other websites, especially any that hold your account / card details 3) Do not call any numbers on screen or if you are contacted via a cold call e.g. someone explaining to be "Microsoft" cancel the call and do not provide any details. 4) Contact a local IT professional that can help you find out what caused the problem and offer advice on how to get the issue resolved.
This type of pop up is regularly known as a Virus/Malware/Spyware/Trojans. They are trying to get you to provide sensitive information or for you to grant access to your machine remotely.
