So the dreaded message of low storage is coming up every couple of hours (annoyingly). The normal response is not now and not now and not now as who has the time to play around with the storage or delete important pics / vids or apps? But then you hit breaking point ..... you go to take a photo and booooom you get hit with the message that you are completely full to the point you cant even take a single vitally important selfie or photo of you cat doing something odd!!! Check out below for the fix we applied today for a customer:
Steps applied to get the client back up and running:
1. Setup iCloud storage (upgraded from the free 5GB to 50GB @ £0.79 a month)
2. Ran a full backup from the iPad to iCloud
3. Logged into the iCloud .com website to confirm that the iPad backup was successful
4. Configured the iCloud media library for storing photos and videos taken on the iPad up into the cloud
5. Configured the optimise storage setting for iCloud (this is fantastic for storing the high resolution version of your photos and videos in the cloud while you iPad has a standard copy) From experience the "optimise storage" setting can free up between 1GB - 5GB of space on a 16GB iPad
6. Another big culprit of hogging storage space are updates waiting in the background to be applied. Updates will automatically download to Apple devices and take up much needed storage space, they can sometimes crash or hang when trying to install if storage space is critically low. Once the above steps have been applied the update can then be installed and further storage space will then be available post install.
Conclusion:
iPad returned to the customer who is safe in knowledge that:
-The Photos, Videos and Settings are now protected
-With the latest update applied the iPad is as secure as possible and running at the optimal level
-NO MORE ANNOYING STORAGE MESSAGES AND AS MANY CAT VIDEOS AS THEY WANT!!!
