Window 10 + Update Heaven

So from my experience your either head over heels in LOVE with Windows 10 believing that it is the best thing since sliced bread or you cant stand the poxy thing questioning why oh whyyyyy could i not have just stayed on Windows 7 or even XP 4 evaaaa!

Well i loved XP, avoided Vista like a bad smell, lived in Windows 7, skipped Windows 8 and am only just getting to know the ins and outs of Windows 10.

From my growing experience of Windows 10 it appears the updates come thick and fast and each big version change comes with its own head aches:

-1507

-1511 (November Update)

-1607 (Anniversary Update)

-1703 (Creators Update)

-1709 (Fall Creators Update)

& soon to be released

-1803 (Spring Creators Update)

So the issue presented with today's customer was an attempt to update from V1703 to V1709 consistently failing and rolling back to a previous system restore point, IN STEPS POLA Technical Solutions to the rescue!!! They were being prompted to upgrade straight after logging into the machine and roughly every few hours while using the PC. Find below the fix we applied to get them bang up to date and back up and running without the prompt to update:

1. Ran sfc /scannow from an elivated command to check if there were any corrupt operating system files causing the problem

2. Ran the windows update troubleshooter available from aka .ms/wudiag

3. Checked the programs running in the startup using Task Manager > Startup tab

4. Turned off any non-windows services that were not essential using msconfig > Services tab

5. Removed bloatware and software no longer in use from the Apps section in > Settings / Control Panel

6. Visited the windows 10 1709 site support .microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4028685/windows-10-get-the-fall-creators-update and downloaded the upgrade assistant

7. Followed the prompts of the update assistant and allowed the upgrade process to complete

Upgrade Complete > Check

Computer Running Faster than before > Check

No more annoying prompt to update > Check

Conclusion:

Dont be afraid of the updates on offer from Microsoft, the majority of the time they provide essential security fixes that will repair flaws in the operating system.

If in doubt or you run into problems applying updates drop us a message on the chat feature found on the far right to discuss the best way to tackle the problem.
